Linda McMahon, the former WWE executive and a nominee for an education role in Donald Trump’s potential administration, is facing allegations of enabling child sexual exploitation during her tenure at WWE. The claims, dating back to the 1980s, stem from a lawsuit filed in Baltimore County, Maryland, which accuses McMahon, her husband Vince McMahon, WWE, and its parent company TKO Group Holdings of failing to prevent abuse within the organization.

The lawsuit centers around Melvin Phillips Jr., a former WWE ringside announcer and crew chief, who allegedly exploited minors under the guise of recruiting “Ring Boys” to assist at events. The suit, filed by five anonymous plaintiffs who were between 13 and 15 years old at the time, claims that Phillips used his position to abuse children, often in full view of staff. The plaintiffs assert that the McMahons were aware of Phillips’ actions but failed to intervene effectively, allowing the abuse to continue for years.

“Phillips manipulated young boys with promises of meeting wrestling stars and attending high-profile events,” the lawsuit alleges. “The McMahons and WWE fostered a culture where such misconduct was not only tolerated but enabled.”

The suit further claims that Vince McMahon acknowledged Phillips’ “unnatural interest” in young boys in the early 1980s and that the McMahons rehired him after initially terminating his employment amid mounting allegations. The plaintiffs, who report enduring lasting psychological trauma, seek damages exceeding $30,000.

Linda McMahon’s lawyer, Laura Brevetti, has dismissed the lawsuit as baseless, describing it as “riddled with falsehoods and exaggerations.” Brevetti vowed that McMahon would “vigorously defend” against the allegations and ultimately prevail.

This legal controversy raises questions about McMahon’s suitability for an education role, given the focus on child welfare. Critics have pointed to the irony of her nomination while facing allegations related to the exploitation of minors.

McMahon, who previously served as head of the Small Business Administration under Trump, is co-chairing his transition team and remains a significant political ally. While the legal battle unfolds, this lawsuit could cast a shadow over her political future and her association with Trump’s administration.
