NEW DELHI: At an event hosted by the Indian diaspora in Dallas, US, Congress MP and leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha (LoP) Rahul Gandhi remarked on Monday that the fear of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Modi dissipated among the people of India right after the Lok Sabha election results were announced earlier this year.
Reflecting on the aftermath of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi stated, "One remarkable thing that happened, which honestly surprised me with its speed, was that the fear of the BJP vanished completely. We witnessed this almost instantly. Within minutes of the election results, no one in India felt afraid of the BJP or the Prime Minister."
These successes do not belong only to Rahul Gandhi or the Congress party; we are just one piece of the larger picture. These are significant victories for the people of India who have embraced democracy, for those who have stood firm against attacks on our constitution, our religion, and our states," Gandhi added.
Gandhi discussed the contrasting visions of India held by the RSS and the Congress party. He stated, "The RSS believes that India is one idea, while we see India as a multitude of ideas. Much like the United States, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate." In his address, Rahul Gandhi emphasized that his vision for the nation includes contributions from people of various backgrounds. "We believe that everyone should be allowed to dream. Every individual should have their own space, irrespective of caste, language, religion, tradition, or history. This is the essence of our struggle, which became evident during the election when millions recognized that the Prime Minister of India is undermining the Constitution. What I am conveying to you is that the union of states must respect languages, religions, traditions, and castes. This is all enshrined in the Constitution," he remarked.
All the words I've shared with you are grounded in the Constitution. The foundation of modern India lies in the Constitution, and during the election, people clearly understood this. I witnessed it when I raised the Constitution; people grasped my message. They recognized that the BJP is attacking our traditions, our languages, our states, our histories, and most importantly, they realized that anyone who attacks the Constitution of India is also attacking our religious traditions," he continued.
On Sunday, Rahul Gandhi touched down in Dallas, Texas, for a three-day visit to the United States. He was received at the airport by Sam Pitroda, chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, and several members of the Indian diaspora.
