In a recent development, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has reportedly received a new death threat, this time from Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of Lawrence Bishnoi, a known gangster currently linked to various high-profile cases in India. According to sources, Anmol Bishnoi has demanded that Khan apologize publicly at a Bishnoi community temple as an act of repentance, or alternatively, pay a sum of Rs 5 crore. The actor, who has faced threats from Bishnoi’s associates in the past, is once again in the spotlight over a longstanding feud with the Bishnoi community.
The controversy stems from an incident in 1998 when Khan was implicated in a blackbuck poaching case. The blackbuck is considered sacred by the Bishnoi community, which led to outrage and longstanding animosity between Khan and some members of the community. Despite Khan’s acquittal in the case, sentiments within the community have remained tense, culminating in renewed threats to his life.
According to a report by Indian media, the demand specifies that Khan must appear in person at a Bishnoi community temple and offer an apology, which they claim would resolve the matter without further financial or physical retribution. However, failure to comply with these terms allegedly puts Khan’s life at continued risk.
International voices, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and opposition MP Chandra Arya, have expressed their concerns. In recent statements, Trudeau highlighted the rising threats against individuals due to ideological and cultural conflicts, urging authorities to address such issues with due seriousness and emphasizing the need for global awareness and action. Chandra Arya, a Canadian opposition MP, echoed similar sentiments, denouncing the escalation of such threats against public figures. Arya called for stronger protection measures for individuals under such risk, particularly when involved in cultural or ideological disagreements.
Khan’s security arrangements have reportedly been tightened in light of this recent development. The Mumbai Police are said to be actively investigating the source and validity of these threats, with a view to ensuring Khan’s safety. Furthermore, authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and additional security has been deployed around the actor’s residence.
The fresh wave of threats has reignited conversations around the responsibility of public figures to be cautious while respecting community sentiments, alongside the importance of enforcing strict legal measures to protect them from physical harm. This case underscores a wider concern about celebrity safety and the security challenges posed by ideological differences.
